My RUUD AC condenser fan is no longer turning. Which I believe is preventing the house from being cooled. The motor appears to be working though. Need ac service and repair.

Recently purchased home in Naperville, West Highlands, tri-level. Previous owners replaced furnace and blower 3 years ago with new Lennox unit. Current A/C unit is very old Sears model. Not functioning properly, and would like estimate on possible repair or replacement.

You can expect new air conditioners to give you trouble free service, but if you have an older unit, you are likely to have the need for air conditioner repairs more often. If you find that your air conditioner problems are increasing steadily, it may be time to buy yourself a new unit. AC repairs can be expensive, and the money that you spend on repairing an old model can easily be converted into buying a brand new, more energy efficient appliance. Most air conditioner problems are rooted in improper installation, or irregular or non existent maintenance. For instance, if the refrigerant is under charged or not charged according to the specifications laid out in the manufacturer's manual, then you may begin to notice leaks. If you find that your room temperature drops below the temperature that's set on your thermostat, it's usually the result of faulty calibration of the thermostat. The importance of getting your AC installed by a qualified professional cannot be underestimated.
Proper air conditioner maintenance is a common cause of air conditioner problems. For instance, if the filters and coils collect dust, it will soon lead to failure of the compressor, necessitating AC compressor repairs. One of the earliest signs that dirt and debris may be dragging down the efficiency of your air conditioning system, is a unit that cools slowly. In such a case, you can clean the condenser fins using a soft brush. You can also hose the fins, although you must take precautions to protect the motor and wiring. An air conditioner that doesn't go on immediately could be the result of a tripped breaker or blown fuse. In such a case, replacing the fuse or resetting the breaker can solve the problem. If you find your blower making noises, call an AC troubleshooting technician to conduct repairs. The belt may be incorrectly aligned or may need to be replaced.
You can do minor air conditioner troubleshooting yourself, but the best solution for AC repair problems is to maintain your unit in perfect condition. When you are in need of air conditioner repairs, hire only a licensed and experienced AC repair technician who has experience conducting AC motor repair, AC compressor and heater repair, and other kinds of air conditioning services and repairs.
